Position Summary:
The role is a critical resource to HomeEquity Bank in the design and continued development of the processes and best practices for the planning and tax compliance of the Corporate group and providing financial analysis support to decision making throughout the enterprise through the Bank’s budgeting, planning and forecasting processes. It will work closely with the Director, VP and CFO in expanding the Bank’s taxation framework including corporate and commodity tax compliance, tax provisioning, tax planning and tax structuring for the corporate group.
Major Elements of the Role
Corporate Income Taxes:
- Preparation of monthly tax provision (current and future taxes), quarterly and annual financial statement tax disclosures, quarterly tax rate reconciliation
- Manage the filing of the corporate tax returns for the legal entities in the Corporate group liaising with external tax advisors
- Participate in the tax reporting and planning activities of the Corporate group
- Assist in completion of tax audits from respective tax authorities including preparing/ providing supporting tax information for purpose of audit
- Track and report on the status of tax compliance including assessment orders, audits reassessments, and other relevant matters
- Maintain the registrations of the Corporate group within CRA’s online portal
- Conduct tax research, oversee various tax projects and assist in the development of tax planning and structuring strategies
- Monitor and report on changes to Canadian and provincial income tax legislation, which have an impact on the Bank
Commodity/HST Taxes:
- Prepare and file Canadian commodity tax/HST returns for all legal entities along with supporting schedules
- Liaise with the external tax advisors to ensure regulatory requirements are met within the prescribed timelines
- Assist in completion of tax audits from respective tax authorities including preparing/ providing supporting tax information for purpose of audit
Payroll Related Taxation:
- Provide assistance with the payroll tax filings for all applicable provinces
- Assess and report the tax obligations regarding the Corporate option plan, shareholder loans and other compensation structures
Annual Budget and Monthly Forecast:
- Participate in the preparation of the annual budget
- Participate in updating and maintenance of the monthly forecast working
- Assist with the variance analysis of operating expenses
- Prepare the analysis of the operational metrics
- Assisting the preparation of the management and investor reporting
Analytics and Forecasting System:
- Participate in the development and expansion of the Bank’s CPM system (Tagetik Solutions)
- Assist with the maintenance of the budget and forecasting software
- Assist the development of analysis and reports requested by VP, CFO and other executives to support decision making
- Create a financial analytics dashboard utilized by the executive team
Skills and Experience Required:
- A University Degree with Major in business/ accounting/ tax
- A Professional Designation is preferred (CPA, CA)
- 5 – 7 years of work experience (Financial Services preferred)
- Canadian corporate and commodity tax compliance experience
- Excel modeling development and analytical skills
- Knowledge of MS Office suite of products
- Excellent verbal and communication skills
- Excellent business and problem-solving skills
