Finance Director, Technical Insulation – Toledo, OH

The Technical Insulation Finance Director is the strategic thought partner of the VP & General Manager and leads the finance function for the ~$1.1B revenue business. This role serves as a key member of the business’ leadership team and the segments finance functional leadership team. In collaboration with Commercial and Operations leaders maximize the short-term and long-term value of the assets, liabilities, and investments of the multiple business segments that this role impacts. The position provides functional leadership for all aspects of finance including commercial finance, FP&A, manufacturing (OEM), back office (Chile and OEM) objective business insights, external financial perspective, asset management, timely financial analysis, and effective control infrastructure. This support is given to the 4 businesses that create the TI portfolio of businesses which includes Core Thermals, Appliance (OEM), BMLA and Specialties (Building and Global Industrial). These businesses span 13 sites located in 6 countries across 4 regions (NA, AP, Latin America, and Europe). Selling into 80 different countries operating in 9 different currencies. Adding to the complexity, these businesses operate on 6 different financial systems.

This role supports the VP & GM of Technical Insulation with team support of GM of Global Specialties, GM of European Specialties Building, GM of Latin America, GM of OEM and Director of Strategic Marketing. This role is vital in driving the critical strategy of Margin Enhancement for not only the TI businesses but also expanding to all of Insulation business.

Reports to: Vice President of Insulation Finance and directly supports VP & GM of Technical Insulation (~$1.1B Revenue)


Span of Control
: 3 direct reports and global team of 19

  • Support of global businesses with locations in US, Belgium, Czech Republic, China, Mexico and Chile. Responsible for all commercial finance, OEM back office (Treasury, IT, Accounting), OEM manufacturing finance, and Chile back office processes (Accounting, Treasury, Tax). This team will navigate the complexity of reporting, controls, and analysis across 6 ERP systems (SAP 4.7, SAP 6.0AP, SAP 6.0, SAPFG, Mapics and iNet)

Driving the financial performance of the business segment

  • Leads actions in line with achieving targets, mitigating risk and prioritizing resource needs
  • Leads proactive development of contingency plans, productivity improvement, and correction actions to ensure financial results and shareholder value are optimized
  • Provides insightful and competitive analytics that anticipate change and drive decision making
  • Collaborate with the Commercial sales leaders to provide decision support through financial modeling, business case analysis and financial/management reporting
  • Assists in contract evaluation and negotiation, evaluates financial implications of specific business decisions/opportunities, and advises management accordingly to ensure targeted financial performance achievement
  • Supports supply chain leadership in terms of relationship with tolling vendors / customers and systematically addresses issues
  • Manages any ad-hoc analysis within tolling relationships (sourcing, inventory counts, etc.)
  • Provides predictable business projections via sales/operations planning and financial forecasting


Strategic planning, operations planning and forecasting

  • Direct the development of the segment’s long-term strategic and annual operations plans, and ensure appropriate actions are in place for effective execution
  • Leads financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting processes for the Technical Insulation, OEM, BMLA and Specialties channels and any tolling arrangements


Reporting & Analysis

  • Provide objective insights, timely reporting, effective analysis and overall finance support to ensure productive management reviews, financially based decisions. and proactive response to market conditions
  • Translate the strategic and operational plans of the business into communications to a broad-based audience including the Group President and leadership team, Executive Committee, Operating Committee, Board of Directors, and external investors
  • Manage P&Ls and working capital and effectively communicate results to leadership
  • Identify risks and ensure accountable action plans are in place to mitigate them
  • Communicates results effectively to management and non-financial personnel
  • Provides in-depth analysis on variances to plan and forecast


Cross-functional leadership and team contribution

  • Work across organizational boundaries and all levels of the company to achieve plant, division or corporate objectives
  • Shares best practices across businesses divisions, i.e., process improvements, financial modeling and procedures changes

  • Provides support to team members at plant, segment, and corporate level
  • Ensures global OC & Insulation perspective in collaboration with other business segments


Leading & Developing Talent

  • Creates an environment where talent is developed through effective performance management, talent evaluation systems and utilization of people
  • Acts as a resource to the non-financial leaders of the business providing education and training on the key principles of Finance
  • Grows and develops direct reports and/or other members of the finance team and other identified talent in their organization
  • Ensures succession plans are executed for focus roles


Financial & Operational Controls

  • Ensures that there is an effective and efficient system of internal controls including: data integrity, asset protection, segregation of duties, budgeting, financial reporting, information systems and adherence to corporate policies and governmental regulations (GAAP, SOX compliance, etc.)


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
:

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting or relevant discipline a must.
  • Minimum of ten years proven manufacturing finance experience.
  • Demonstrated leadership in organizations with multiple channels and has led strategic planning, operations planning, investment analysis and executive-level business reviews
  • Attracting, developing, and retaining outstanding talent and successors
  • Ability to function expertly in a highly matrixed structure across functional, business, geographic and cultural boundaries


PREFERRED
EXPERIENCE:

  • MBA, CMA, CPA preferred.
  • Strong leadership experience to organizations within a manufacturing operation(s)—leading operations planning, savings, forecasting and investment analysis
  • Operating in a range of economic conditions, i.e. expansion, contraction, stable economic conditions—forecasting, scenario planning, risk analysis and contingency development
  • Developing business cases and enrolling leaders at all levels in taking appropriate action
  • International experience: Global exposure and experience working with international teams
  • Negotiating, developing and evaluating customer and supplier contracts

:

  • Strong financial and analytical acumen with demonstrated analytical ability accompanied by knowledge of corporate finance and manufacturing costing principles—understands P&L and balance sheet dynamics
  • Demonstrated ability to teach and communicate in simple, impacting terms
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and control costs—effectively develops business cases and enroll leaders at all levels in taking appropriate action
