We are current seeking a Compliance Officer to join our ARPHS team:

  • Help protect people in Tāmaki Makaurau from the harms associated from alcohol and tobacco.
  • Full-time permanent role, Monday to Friday
  • Flexible working arrangements available for work/life balance.

Te whiwhinga mahi | The Opportunity
We have an exciting opportunity for you to carry out alcohol and smokefree regulatory responsibilities as a Compliance Officer at Auckland Regional Public Health Service (ARPHS).

This role ensures effective enforcement of the Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act 2012 and the Smokefree Environments and Regulated Products Act 1990.

Based within the Health Improvement Team which works across the areas of alcohol, smokefree, nutrition and workplace health and wellbeing, it brings a multi-disciplinary and systems approach to these complex areas.

Key responsibilities of the role include:

  • Assessing and reporting on alcohol licensing applications within legal frameworks.
  • Enforcing the Smokefree Environments and Regulated Products Act 1990 from queries and complaints through to prosecution.
  • Building and maintaining agency networks to support collaborative working
  • Applying a health equity lens to the work which will help shape Tamaki Makaurau, and so all can flourish.

Nga Pūkenga Motuhake | Important Skills
Given the importance of this role, you will be someone who:

  • Is passionate about protecting people in Tāmaki Makaurau from the harms associated from alcohol and tobacco.
  • Is committed to achieving health equity and improving outcomes for people in Tāmaki Makaurau.
  • Has an eye for detail, the ability to translate legislation into practice and have accurate investigation, assessment and reporting skills.
  • Ideally has a minimum of three or more years’ experience in regulatory work for local or central government. You may also have a legal/environmental health/health promotion or other relevant discipline. Transferable skills from areas such as debt collection or customer service could also be relevant.
  • An undergraduate or post graduate qualification within an appropriate discipline or progress towards completion would be an advantage.
  • Have a full New Zealand driver’s licence
  • Knowledge of Te Reo me ona Tikanga would be an advantage.
